I wouldn’t say “frightful”, necessarily, more that I really wish I hadn’t had to get into my car this morning. Because the road conditions are frightful. We got a huge dump of snow last night – we shoveled the driveway 3 separate times last night and when we woke up this morning there was a foot of snow. It’s the kind of day where I really wish I wasn’t at work, because then I could be at home, reading by the fire, playing with my dog in the snow, coming back inside and warming up by the fire…
So I’m just going to think about that all day while I look at my countdown app that counts down the hours until I’m on winter break (as I type this I have 2 days, 5 hours, and 26 minutes). Here are the books I would most like to be reading, right now, as I stare out my window at the knee-deep snow.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Or, rather, Crooked Kingdom, because that one’s actually on my TBR. Nothing like a good heist story to satisfy that craving to completely escape into a book.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
This book is one of my Christmas traditions, and, to be perfectly honest, today would be a perfect day to be reading it. Scrooge and Marley are calling…
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling
This is the next book in my Harry Potter re-read, and if I didn’t have work today it would have been the best. But I have work. So I’ll just cry inside.
The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness
Simply because this is the book that I’m actually in the middle of reading right now, and I would love to put a nice dent into it, rather than just reading ten pages and then having to do adulting things.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Although it’s my favourite book – ever – I have not re-read it for a couple of years now, and I was really hoping that this was the year I’d be able to give it a good re-read.
