Top Ten Tuesday
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. They’ve been on hiatus for a few weeks, but we’re back this week! Yay! This week’s theme looks at the books at the top of your spring TBR. I thought that since I’m planning a reading vacation for my Spring Break that I’d include the ten books that I’m hoping to read over that vacation. (More than a book a day is a reasonable reading goal, right?)
1. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
This is one that I am going into blind (I don’t like knowing too much before I start reading a book). I think it’s sci-fi? I have to read it for my book club that’s meeting on April 3rd, so I know that this one will for sure get knocked off my TBR.
2. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book, so I feel like it’s a good one to introduce myself to Morgan Matson’s writing.
3. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows
This book just strikes me as hilarious. It’s a historical fiction that’s supposed to be very heavy on the fiction and doesn’t take itself to seriously. Which sounds like it’s going to be my jam.
4.-6. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
I’ve actually got all three of these books on hold (Anna, Lola, and Isla) because I’ve heard so many wonderful things and I feel like it’s just the sort of fluffy nonsense that I crave while lying on a beach.
7. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
I read a few Sarah Dessen novels a while ago, but it’s been a long time since I’ve read anything of hers. I feel like it’s a good time to jump back into her worlds.
8. The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, but I’ve been waiting to read it. I’m in the middle of a pretty dense non-fiction at the moment, and I only like to read one non-fiction, one fiction, one audiobook, etc. at a time
9. A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston
I’ve wanted to read this book ever since I finished The Wrath and the Dawn duology, because it’s another 1001 Arabian Nights retelling. I even bought it around Christmas time. I’m excited to bring it along and get some sand between the pages.
10. Emma/Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I still haven’t decided which of these I’m going to bring along. I like to bring at least one tried-and-true book to reread on vacations, just in case the new books I’ve brought along just aren’t doing it for me. On the one hand, I love rereading Pride and Prejudice. On the other hand, I think I’ve only read Emma the once, whereas I’ve read Pride and Prejudice somewhere between 4 and 6 times.
What do you think? Which Jane Austen should I bring on my trip with me?
Dark Matter sounds really good and one that I would love to have play out on screen as well! It reminds me of the low-budget 2013 film Coherence in some ways as well (would recommend if you want an indie SF-F film).
Cheers,

Interesting! I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on Coherence. I do enjoy a good science fiction flick.

I’m excited about it! Walking into it blind, though. All I can tell you is that the cover is a lot more orange than I expected haha

Anna and the French Kiss is my favorite of those three novels. It’s the most fun, I think.
If it’s down to Emma and Pride & Prejudice, I’ll always choose P&P. I’m not a fan of Emma as a character, so anything to avoid her is good to me.

Good to know! And I love the journey that Emma’s character takes. I’m also a big Knightley fan lol

Have you read Persuasion? That’s my personal favorite Austen book, followed closely by Sense & Sensibility.

I have! I’ve read all of her completed novels

Oh, have you ever read Austenland? If you like the Austen novels you might like this too. It’s by Shannon Hale and is funny. There’s a movie too starring Kerri Russel. It’s about a girl who’s obsessed with Pride & Prejudice that gets to go to an immersive Jane Austen experience.

I’ve seen the movie (hilariously odd), but I haven’t read the book yet 😊

My Lady Jane was such a refreshing read, it made me laugh a lot. I hope you like it as much as I did!
