Sara Bareilles is one of my favourite musicians, and this book only pushed her farther up my list of favourites. What she has done in this book is take 7 (or 8, I no longer have the book to verify) of her songs, and told the story that led her to write those songs. And through these stories, she lets us in on her creative process as well as some of the pivotal moments of her life.
Sara’s beautiful and poetic songwriting translates very well into prose, and her sense of humour, while quite apparent in her music, is abundantly prevalent in her story telling.
I loved this book, because it felt like an extended edition of one of her music albums. It was like purchasing an album and instead of just receiving a little booklet inside the case, there’s a whole bunch of extra featurettes and behind the scenes footage.
